Hiking with Kids – absolutely inappropriate today?

Hiking with kids is a special challenge. With the right approach and attention of some points but for all sides more than profitable. Here you will find tips and tricks for hiking with children.

Children and hiking?

How do I go here or in which way do I bring children to hike? Actually quite simple: Movement, movement and movement. If moving for children becomes a matter of course, like watching TV, then it will become an elementary part of their lives. Already at a young age we did a lot of outdoor activities, went for a walk and started hikes from the age of about 8 years.

Tip 1: Do not overcharge children while hiking

It is very important that the lengths and especially the hikes are deliberately selected. There is nothing worse than hearing “I can not do more”. I often heard and hear this from elementary school students, never from kids. The increase of the track and duration came almost by itself.

Tip 2: Experiences and breaks

Also, the selection of the tour is elementary. It is important to keep the kids “in the mood”, to offer them experiences. These can also be completely lapidary things. While adults want to experience other highlights, playgrounds for children, trees to balance, small brooks (for damming, throw stones, skipping or other activities) cairns, small caves or any places where they can discover. I always associate these places with a break. Additional breaks for snacks disturb here rather. Therefore choose from the outset his experience and break stations, ideally know personally and connect with each other.

Hiking with several children

At first I was traveling a lot with my primary school class. We hiked a lot, spent a lot of time in the field in the forest in connection with the preparation of a children’s guide. This was even honored at the time with the first place in a regional competition of the Sparkasse Hochfranken. At the urging of some parents, I even decided to start WAFI. The children should continue to be in nature on the move, move in the fresh air and hiking in the Fichtelgebirge make experiences. After registration and the conclusion of a corresponding insurance, it started, the training I could demonstrate (hiking guide, primary school teacher, BLSV instructor).
